Conservation International (CI) seeks candidate for Media Team to help raise the profile of CI's global conservation work with donors, key influencers, partners and general consumers. Under the direction of the Director of Media Strategy, this position will have the main responsibility targeting U.S. journalists - including print, broadcast and online with the intent of placing high profile stories about CI in "A-List" media outlets and key CI Donor Markets. This work will support primary goals of of raising public awareness of CI, helping to secure conservation and policy outcomes, and increasing online traffic and donors and partners from these regions.
Candidate should demonstrate a keen interest in environmental issues and conservation, and an understanding of the role that NGOs governments and businesses can play in preserving the world's biodiversity while protecting the world's poorest people.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and implement US focused media strategies which align with CI’s overarching communications strategies for each focus area of CI’s new strategic plan including: Climate Security, Water Security, Food Security, Health Security, Cultural Services, and Option Values.

Secure high profile placements of priority CI stories in CI's target donor markets and policy markets as well as key national media outlets - print, broadcast, online.

Supporting the development of position statements on key institutional isses

Serve as lead in responding to direct requests and inquiries from US journalists.
Working Conditions: The job will be based in CI's head office in Arlington, VA, but would involve some domestic and international travel to major conferences and other events and - occasionally - to visit field projects with journalists. Job will occassionally require working outside of normal business hours of 9-5 when needs arise around specific story pitching.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Required Skills:

Five years of journalism and/or public relations experience with proven placements and contacts at top level media outlet

Understanding of how to use Web 2.0 applications for media outreach and story pitching; excellent writing skills.

Ability to generate outreach strategies and materials designed to reach a variety of audiences.

Can manage large workload with multiple deadlines

Strong attention to detail.

Interest in and knowledge of environmental issues and how NGO's interact with key stakeholders to deliver conservation and policy results.
