The Odzala National Park is located in the Congo Basin, the world's second largest tropical forest, after Amazonia, and one of the largest remaining tropical wilderness areas. Due to its importance and its uniqueness, the Government of the Republic of Congo has recently declared the expansion of the Park to four times its original size. This unprecedented action in the region, has secured the habitat of the world's largest concentration of western lowland gorillas. The video highlights the beauty of the diverse habitats of Odzala, including its forests clearings or bais. These bais are Odzala's signature. They contain rich mineral deposits which attracts many large mammals such as elephants and gorillas. The ease with which those animals can be observed at the bais makes Odzala exceptionally attractive for tourism and research. "I have been studying primates for more than 30 years and Odzala is the only place I know of where you can watch gorillas from as close as 15 meters, feeding peacefully on grasses in the open pasture," says Russell A. Mittermeier, primatologist and president of Conservation International.
