Cambodia

In 2007, CI led a team of scientists to survey the wildlife of Virachey National Park in Cambodia.   >> See the Expedition Overview.

The park contains numerous diverse species and habitats.  You can read about the results of the preliminary survey below, or download the full preliminary report (PDF - 3.63 MB).

Ants are essential to the health of ecosystems.  Our scientists seek out the tiny crawlers in order to document the wealth of insects.

Freshwater fish are abundant in Cambodia, though they have been poorly studied in the past.

From turtles to snakes to frogs, these animals not only indicate for researchers the direct threats to ecosystems but also provide important information about how climate change is affecting the region.

Often the most charismatic species in a region, large mammals are difficult to find and document. Small mammals can indicate the density of their larger relatives.
