Jennifer Howard
Vice President, Blue Carbon
Jennifer is the vice president of the blue carbon program at Conservation International. Her work focuses on implementing scalable mechanisms to conserve coastal and marine ecosystems with the aim of supporting coastal communities, combating climate change and protecting biodiversity. In this role, she provides technical support to Conservation International's teams in the field and builds partnerships for large-scale meaningful change. She helped found the Global Mangrove Alliance and represents Conservation International on its steering committee, with the goal of halting mangrove loss, doubling mangrove protections and restoring half of mangrove ecosystems globally. She is also a technical expert with the Blue Carbon Initiative, a global program on coastal carbon science and marine policy that works to mitigate climate change through the restoration and sustainable use of coastal and marine ecosystems.
Jennifer is a technical advisor to the Verra Blue Carbon Working Group, where she is developing carbon crediting methodologies that support large and small projects around the world. Jennifer works closely with partners to identify barriers to taking blue carbon to scale and come up with innovative solutions to overcome barriers.
