The dawn chorus pulsates with the vocalizations of birds like the brush cuckoo, elegant tit and black-naped monarch. Mount Apo is an active volcano and the highest peak in the Philippines. Protected as a national park, this area provides a habitat for the critically endangered Philippine eagle, which has fewer than 500 individuals. Despite its protected status, the park’s surrounding forests continue to be converted to agricultural lands.
