Rapid Scaling Portfolio Propels The Great People's Forest Ahead
In less than a year since the launch of the Great People's Forest, the initiative has launched a rapid scaling portfolio to accelerate conservation efforts in six locations.
The scaling portfolio is being delivered with a €3 million grant from Inditex to restore and protect 61,000 hectares and plant 20 million trees, benefiting approximately 200,000 people in the Eastern Himalayas.
At a recent meeting in New Delhi, founding partners aligned on impact goals and established working groups for scientific research, monitoring and evaluation, and policy development. The initiative emphasizes knowledge exchange and capacity building through investments in scientific research and youth leadership programs, fostering climate resilience and economic growth for local communities.
The initiative also aims to elevate the region onto the world stage and has exciting plans to leverage mass-market communications to raise awareness and scale community-led conservation efforts.
The Great People's Forest is one of the largest conservation efforts in South Asia. It aims to restore 1 million hectares of land, plant 1 billion trees in the Eastern Himalayas, and safeguard the region's wildlife and biodiversity. Learn more here.
